5/11: North BKK-Nonthanaburi

Today we took the Chao Praya Khan ferry to the most north station, Nonthanaburi.
A solid 45min boat trip through Bkk up north. It should have been a bit more relaxed & not so busy there...however it seemed there was a longboat rowing event today...not the hoped "peace" we tried to find, but all-in-all nice to see.

Walked around a local market. You can find everything here...even things we do not know what they are...check out the webalbum for pictures.

Thai event style is basically an MTV clip which has been over-dramatized ;-)
From what we understood it was a traditional? rowing event with large teams (100 rowers?) accompagnied with really loud comentary that could be heard throughout the city (5km away?), fire works (=tnt), shortshort-biking dancers in a tower grabbing the pole with R&B & madonna music...mmmm, special. We hebben de laatste tegenslag nog niet gehad.

We hadden besloten om naar een ander Hostel te gaan in Bangkok (verder weg van het lawaai en de feestende mensen, en vooral meer waar voor je geld of minder waar voor minder geld was ook goed :) ).
Met vier fietszakken rond onze hals (aangezien de fietsen nog steeds in België zijn) naar de pier voor een boot te nemen is geen eenvoudige onderneming.

Regelmatig checken of alles er nog was, was dus onze opdracht op weg naar daar.
Op een checkmoment op de pier gemerkt dat er toch iets weg was: moneybelt!
Paniek, teruggelopen, niets gevonden, Ardan teruggelopen, natuurlijk ook niets gevonden.

Ja lap: paspoort kwijt, simkaart kwijt, bankkaart kwijt, american express kwijt.
Ardan heeft meteen gebeld voor american express, dus geblokt.
Daar konden ze gelukkig niets mee doen.
We zaten daar met al onze zakken, dus maar eerst ingecheckt in onze nieuwe hostel.
Een hele verademing was dat!
Dat gaf ons meteen moed om alles in orde te krijgen voor mijn paspoort.
Een geluk bij een ongeluk was dat we in Bangkok waren, dus een Belgische ambassade aanwezig.
Die konden ons vertellen wat te doen.
Om een lang verhaal kort te maken: wat rondgelopen in Bangkok, maar nu is alles in orde.
Binnen twee weken is mijn nieuwe paspoort er en kan ik het op de ambassade gaan ophalen.
Op tijd om het vliegtuig naar Maleisië te halen dus.

-->De lucht in Azie geeft ons precies wel een positieve ingesteldheid, want we lieten het allemaal niet te hard aan ons hart komen.

's avonds Karlien en Bram gezien in onze hostel, (waarvan we dachten dat ze al weg waren uit Bangkok), dus dat was een leuk weerzien!
Wat gebel en gemail naar Joker (om ze zo ver te krijgen de cargo van onze fietsen te betalen -->hun schuld door foute info dat ze nog in België zijn!) en naar mondial assistance (die gelukkig alles terugbetalen van paspoort) zijn we dan gezellig met zijn vieren iets gaan eten.

Nieuws over de fietsen is ondertussen wel dat onze held Andries ondertussen een goede prijs heeft kunnen regelen en dat ze hier woensdag aankomen. Onze fietsreis wordt dus toch nog een fietsreis.
Nogmaals 100 maal dank voor al het geregel en heel de rompslomp die er mee samen hing Andries!

Nog enkele dagen in Bangkok vertoeven en dan waarschijnlijk even naar Koh Tao om te leren duiken.
Dan fietsen ophalen en op naar het noorden richting Chiang Mai.

Anyway, all is well!

Tue 2/11: BKK Visiting on foot

Although the weather forcast wasn't al that great, the sun was shining and it was really hot.
We decided to visit Bkk main tourist attractions on foot today, starting with the ones which are most nearby to our current  guesthouse in Banglamphu area.
1)Grand Palace
2)Tempel of emerald buddha
3)Wat Pho (lying Buddha)
4)Wat Arun (damn those stairs are almost completely vertical up!) --> Line was scared going back down.

5)Golden Mount Temple
6)Loha Prasat
Khaosan Road?!? => Ridiculous street which looks like a strip in Ibiza...strange.
In total we walked 15 kilometers, a footmassage sounded like music in our ears.
However we didn't do this because we wanted to stay within our budget/day.

This evening we meet up with some friends in a bar to chat and maybe get some Do's and Don'ts for Thailand since their trip is almost finished. Tomorrow we change guesthouse & then decide what to do. Maybe we will take a short trip somewhere up north for the weekend since our bikes will only arrive in BKK on Tuesday next week.
This means we certainly will have to take a train within the next three weeks if we want to be in Hatyai to catch our flight to Kuala Lumpur.

Ps. Lieve familie en vriendjes/vriendinnetjes, er zullen ook regelmatig blogs gepost worden in het Nederlands hoor.
Ardan typt ze gewoon in het Engels wanneer hij begint omdat hij dit ook door zijn collega's wil laten lezen en door iedereen die geïnteresseerd is over de hele wereld. Jaja, er zijn al Japanners, Amerikanen,... op onze blog geweest :)

Mon 1/11: First night at Bkk

Arrived at Bkk airport, everything is new & modern.

At the time of typing we are enjoying our first thai meal.
It's good, a bit spicy although it will probably only get more spicy...
Hotel room is a bit cheap, but this is the way to live.
Back to basics!

We also got a small biking puppet from Line's family which we have to carry along for the trip and gather pics from in nice places. We gave him the name "Peyo" (the manufacturer name ;-)

Sun 31/10: Departure Bxl to Bkk

Our travel agent =>Joker doesn't know his stuff!

To cut a long story short we didn't leave with our bikes from Bxl airport.
If you fly 2 airlines (BA & Qantas) who have different requirements for bike packing you are in for problems...we can now tell you from experience. Fine, lesson learned. Still gonna send them a pissed mail & ask the cargo costs back.

They wil be sent to Bkk by Cargo via Andries. THANKS ANDRIES.
We will tell you what adress to sent them.
Probably NOT the 1st hotel we are now in in BKK (Sawasdee Smille Inn) we will try to
book an extra 2 days in BKK in another guesthouse (NEW ROAD GUESTHOUSE).
It is in a more quite area of BKK and already more to the south which should make our exit a bit more easy when we leave the big city. DETAILS TO BE CONFIRMED
